i loved scrawny arundhati when I, all of 15 then, saw her in an art-house film no one knew, and I never heard of her again. Over a decade later when I heard that an Indian author named Arundhati Roy had set an international record for a debut novel, I somehow knew it was her. And it was her! What a piece of work, marrying brilliance of inspiration and intensity of perspiration into a perfect masterpiece.
